Around The AHL: School's out for top prospects

A wave of top-flight NCAA talent is on its way to the AHL. The annual spring-time migration of high-end NCAA players into the AHL for their first taste of pro hockey has started.

Montréal Canadiens 2019 first-round pick Cole Caufield started the parade last weekend, leaving the University of Wisconsin after two seasons to turn pro. After completing a mandatory COVID-19 quarantine upon entering Canada, the 20-year-old Caufield will report to the Canadian Division-leading Laval Rocket. Caufield piled up 30 goals in 31 games for the Badgers, earning Big Ten Player of the Year honours as well being named a Hobey Baker Award finalist.
