What We Learned: How many 40-goal scorers will we see in 2024-25?

At this time of year, when there's practically nothing happening on the transaction front but it feels like a few pieces have to shake loose for rosters to be truly set, one of the things I like to think about is who might score 30, 40, 50 goals next season.

It's easy enough to look at a list of guys who hit those milestone numbers last year, but it's rare that anyone can reach them on a year-over-year basis.

For example, despite all the talk that goalscoring is way up and we're seeing at least one guy clear 60 basically every season at this point, the fact is that there have only been 18 50-goal seasons in the last decade. With the caveat that two of those campaigns were shortened by COVID, that's only about two per year and more than a quarter of those 50-goal efforts were by Alex Ovechkin
