Hockey East teams already in prime position for NCAA tournament
For any college sports conference, the best thing you can do is get as many of your teams as possible into the NCAA tournament, but of course, it's not easy.
In hockey in particular, it's pretty difficult. The field is just 16 teams out of 64, and with two automatch bids given to conferences full of teams that rarely qualify for at-large seeds, it means you really have to be in the top 14 of 64 to qualify. But even then, that might not be enough because of the possibility for upsets in the stronger conferences.
And while the end of college hockey's regular season is still two months away, no conference has positioned itself better to put five, six, maybe even seven teams into that 16-team field than Hockey East.
