Mats Näslund Facts

Father: Torsten Näslund, Son: Robert Näslund, Cousins: Stefan Pettersson, Håkan Pettersson

Mats Näslund was selected 37th overall in 1979 after scoring 24 points with Brynäs IF and winning bronze with Sweden at the World Juniors and World Championship. He won an SHL Championship the following year and scored 71 points as a rookie for the Canadiens in 1983. He won a Stanley Cup in 1986 after setting career highs of 43 goals and 110 points and won a Lady Byng in 1988 before leaving the Canadiens in 1990 to play overseas. Näslund won World Championship gold in 1991 and SHL Championships in 1992 and 1994, as well as Olympic gold, which made him a member of the Triple Gold Club. He returned to the NHL in 1995 and scored 22 points in 34 games for the Bruins. The 3x All-Star retired with 251 goals and 634 points in 651 games.
